June 2008

28th / 29th JUNE - Nationals Tournament Under 12's

Andrew Underwood from the Under 12's squad was asked to stand in for the Glossopdale Devils netminder at this years GBHI Nationals in Bisley. Glossops netminder was unavailable as he was away in the USA playing for the GB squad at the AAU tournaments - Andy accepted and took on the role which did not phase him one bit. His "adopted" team for the weekend made it through the first day with wins against Glenrothes Gladiators (4 - 1) / Blackhawks (11 - 1) but lost against Torbain Tigers (6 - 4). They went into the second day hopeful of qualifying for the finals and it was a tense time after winning the next two games against Tunbridge Wells Cruisers (5 - 1) and Killamarsh Khaos (6 - 0) needing a draw or a win against Farnborough Arrows in the final game it came down to the wire when Farnborough scored an equalising goal right on the buzzer - final score 2 - 2. Qualified for the final they again faced Farnborough Arrows but this time could not pull it off and lost the game 8 - 3. A good experience for Andy and he came away from it happy with the experience..
